Insane

Recently, I fell in love with something I never thought I would – Instagram! The main reason is not because I get to share photos instantly with my followers but rather, I’ve found so many brilliant artists/designers from there! Besides playing Angry Birds on the train/bus now (don’t laugh!), I can also keep my creative juice flowing with creative stuffs.

In the midst of checking out some amazing works yesterday, I came across this INSANE guy (couldn’t find a more suitable word to describe him) – David Jon Kassan. Looking through his works just make me want to cry! They’re just so… INSANE! And I can’t not share them with you.

In case you’re wondering, David is NOT a photographer…….

These are real oil paintings.

Time To Say Goodbye

Happy Sunday!

What have you been up to eh? Well, I’ve been working on a new website for my label, Dollgift.

I can’t help but feel sad to have to bid goodbye to my current one soon.. After all it was the very first website I learnt to build from scratch without a single clue about web building. Getting a new website has been on my mind for quite a while now. There are just too many restrictions to my existing site with some of the bigger problems like; not being smartphones friendly, no shopping cart, a pain to post any updates etc. Of course these problems can be easily solved by incorporating flash or css but  that would also mean extra time, energy and frustrations to figure how to do it (I’m a web building idiot remember?). Hence, I figured switching to a ready-made template website would be a wiser choice in the long run. And I’m actually looking forward to the new one. Heh!

Now will you visit my first love for the last time before it’s gone, www.mydollgift.com.

The Perfect Gift

This must be one of the most perfect gifts you can get for anyone or yourself.

Imagine sipping on your warm warm coffee/tea/cocoa on a cold cold day in one of these lovely tumblers (made with double wall insulation to keep your drinks warm)!

For just $25.50 USD, you get to pick from this selection of adorable drawings (new designs will be added  regularly). And because I love gifts that are personalized, I always keep that in mind when designing my products. Not only can you have the recipient and/or your name on the tumbler; if there is one particular message, quote, affirmation OR mantra you like, just let me know.

AND I’ve not even tell you the best part —> there is NO extra charge for that.

I’m Blessed ^^

Hello! So sorry for the delay of this post.

First of all, I would like to do a BIG shout out to everyone, especially to my friends (over 30 of them!) who came by our booth last Friday.

Thank you so much guys!! I really appreciate your presence and it certainly means alot to have your support. I so regret not taking a photo with each of you. :(

Pardon the image quality, there wasn’t enough light in the room.

I felt so loved that day…

I’ve had sweet friends to help me delivered those merchandise/props to the venue, setting up the booth, bought me food/drinks, and lovely customer who came down specially to pass me a gift she made.

I’ve had my awesome boyfriend to help out at the booth when I needed to catch up with friends I hadn’t seen in years. AND there was one friend who dropped by with a big BIG surprise for me. I need to tell you what this absolutely generous and awesome friend of mine had bought me………

It was a pair of Melissa ANGEL heels! *Keyword here is ANGEL. Now you know my fetish.

Isn’t this stunning?!!

This is in fact the most expensive pair of shoes I own! Ha. However, what made my little heart swelled with emotions apart from this bubble gum smelling shoes was the handwritten notecard that says,

”Congrats on taking this big step! I’m so proud of you. Just know you are one of the bravest people I know. I know this is just one of the many big things you will be doing with your dreams. To many more big steps, and now you can do that with pretty shoes. :p I love you! Take flight and follow your dreams” – ❤ Eva.

You might be wondering; why would getting a booth at the flea market seems like such a big thing for me? No, my friend is not exaggerating. It may seem like a simple task for just anyone but certainly not for someone with social anxiety. The need to speak with so many strangers in one day is close to asking me to jump into a sea full of sharks. Of course I’m not saying my customers are sharks but you get my point.

I’ve always thought I have an exceptionally ‘shy’ personality, that’s it. But now as I reflect on my past, I recall being misunderstood all the time. ‘Arrogant’, ‘aloof’ or ‘anti-social’ are just some of the labels people have used on me. Truth is, deep beneath that cool mask was a very fearful and insecure girl. I would get totally stressed up when I meet new people or get very nervous when strangers stop me on the street to ask for direction. In fact, I never knew there is a term call ‘social anxiety’ until recently when I came across this article, ‘Anxiety No More’ written by Paul David. As I read through his story, I felt he was totally writing about me! At one part, he said,

”I would also avoid eye contact and just wanted to escape. Because of this I started avoiding people and I was perceived as ignorant more than once. I don’t blame people for this perception of me and as far as I was concerned that was far better than having to go and talk to others. I just found it so difficult to hold a conversation and I never felt part of it.”

As odd as it may sound to you, this is exactly what I’m going through. I felt such a huge relief to know I’m not alone. I guess my low self-esteem and already existing anxiety issue must have contributed to this. If you suspect anyone who could be suffering from social anxiety or other anxiety issues, it would really help to read up about what they’re going through. Your support and encouragement would mean alot to them.

I may still be struggling from racing heart, shortness of breath and sleeping difficulty every single day or more symptoms every other day, but I’m really grateful to have some wonderful friends and a very supportive boyfriend on my journey. On my part, I promise to take baby steps at a time to overcome those fears. :)

Thank you again for reading.

Join Us At MAAD (Market of Artists and Designers)!

Yes, it’s happening AGAIN!

We’re diving right into another flea market after an uninteresting one just a week ago (read all about it HERE). I’m very sure it’s going to be much more promising and exciting this time round. Why? Because it’s not simply any ordinary flea market, BUT a market of ARTISTS AND DESIGNERS (MAAD)! You just love the name don’t you?

”MAAD is a Market of Artists And Designers. An excuse to do something more exciting with your life. A space for exhibiting, performing, selling, shopping, chit-chatting, surprising and experimenting. MAAD is beyond the usual fashion-base, second-hand flea market. MAAD hawks only original, creative, and more often than not, handmade works by talented painters, jewellery makers, product designers, visual artists, wordsmiths and eco-friendly seamstresses.” –www.maad.sg

If you like the sound of it already, come join us this Friday (just 3 more days!), 1st March at Red Dot Museum (Singapore). We’ll be there from 5pm all the way till midnight! More information can be found on my Facebook page.

We’ll be selling some of our lovely gift cards, prints, limited edition handmade bookmarks/ postcards/ notebooks, tumblers etc.

Look out for our booth with this little signage and say hello! :)

Flea Market Updateeee :/

As soon as photos of the flea market were posted on my Facebook page last Sunday, I received comments and text messages from friends asking why I did not inform them about the event. And I thought I’d flooded my Facebook page (blog and twitter) since a month ago?

Okay, so now I learned something.. NOT everyone checks their Facebook multiple times a day!! *Sheepish smile.

Well, I’ve made a mental note on that, to spam, no I mean ‘inform’ everyone about any upcoming event directly to their inboxes next time. If you’d also like to receive updates from us, like us on Facebook!

I hear you ask, ‘So, how did the flea market went that day?’

One word – BOringgg!!!! And here comes my whining…

Rewind back to Sunday. When we arrived at Scape around 12 noon, we were momentarily horrified to discover 99% of the booths selling ONLY cheap second hand clothes! Our disappointment increased with each passing minute as we noticed 98% of the crowd were obviously there for second hand items. You can pretty much imagine our frustration with these people shoving and crowding around our neighbours’ booths like we were totally invisible.

Finally after 5 hours of idling, we gave up and decided to call it a day. Those of you who came down for us later that day, I’m sorry you missed us. Special thanks to my friend, Alicia, who sacrificed her family day to join me that day. I would have been literally bored to tears without her company. AND, not forgetting my very sweet boyfriend who kept an eye on the booth for me while I sneaked away for loooong breaks. No choice, you can’t make an ADD person sit around doing nothing for even 30 minutes. :p

By the way, we made one sale that day. Yes, that was the ONLY sale we made in that 5 hours. But then again, ONE sale is still better than NO sale. Heh!~

Now thinking back, I actually find the whole thing so funny. lol.

I guess more importantly, it’s not about how much money we made that day but rather what we can learn from this experience. Now I have a better idea on what to prepare and how to set up my own booth the next time round. I’m sure it’s going to be much better!

Keep a lookout for our next flea market! Coming REAL soon. :)
